(2004 vs. Duke in Cameron Indoor Stadium)
Next Step Basketball was started in December of 2005 by Casey Frandsen. Next Step was designed to provide young players with a chance to develop their skills with extra work and instruction outside of regular team practices during the season, as well as in the off season. The founder, owner, and instructor of Next Step Basketball, Casey played high school basketball at Toutle Lake High School and then moved on to play on a full athletic scholarship at the University of Portland. At Toutle Lake Casey received numerous awards and honors including twice being named the Washington State 1A Classification Player of the Year, and twice being named The Daily News All-Area, All-Classification Player of the Year.
At the University of Portland Casey was a two-time All-League performer and still graces the record books in many categories. Casey finished his career as the record holder for most career three-point field goals (a record that has since been broken by Jared Stohl), second in three-point field goals in a season, second in single-season scoring, and 13th on the all-time career scoring list. While at Portland Casey showed he could play with the best in college basketball by scoring 28 points against Duke on the Blue Devils home floor, Cameron Indoor Stadium. At the time Duke was ranked #1 in the nation and the team was comprised of future NBA players Carlos Boozer, Mike Dunleavy, Jay Williams, Dahntay Jones, and Chris Duhon.
